Capability for Hydrogeochemical Modelling within Discrete Fracture Networks

چکیده

A new method for simulating solute transport and geochemical interactions within fractured rock is presented. This will be an important capability assessing the safety of radioactive waste disposal facilities that are located crystalline bedrock. Specifically, discrete fracture network (DFN) module ConnectFlow groundwater flow software has been updated to: (i) simulate advection diffusion more than one species (with equations coupled by evolving density viscosity); (ii) model solutes into matrix between fractures; (iii) utilise iPhreeqc library to chemical reactions involving solutes, minerals on fracture/pore surfaces minerals. The performance ConnectFlow’s DFN also significantly improved via parallelisation which allows complex calculations attempted. These developments significant because hydrogeochemistry accurately represented in explicit DFN, rather using approximate equivalent continuous porous medium (ECPM) methods. Illustrative have completed facility spent nuclear fuel at Olkiluoto Finland, former candidate site disposal, Laxemar, Sweden. show simulations provide results qualitatively similar from ECPM calculations. However, a less direct approach, notable differences exist when compared approach.

A new conforming mesh generator for three-dimensional discrete fracture networks

Nowadays, numerical modelings play a key role in analyzing hydraulic problems in fractured rock media. The discrete fracture network model is one of the most used numerical models to simulate the geometrical structure of a rock-mass. In such media, discontinuities are considered as discrete paths for fluid flow through the rock-mass while its matrix is assumed impermeable. There are two main pa...

Flow simulation in 3D Discrete Fracture Networks

Natural fractured media are characterized by their diversity of structures and organization. Numerous studies in the past decades have evidenced the existence of characteristic structures at multiple scales [1]. At fracture scale, the aperture distribution is widely correlated and heterogeneous. Fractures themselves have widely varying sizes with no obvious dominating or characteristic scale. A...

Predictive hydrogeochemical modelling of bauxite residue sand in field conditions.

The suitability of residue sand (the coarse fraction remaining from Bayer's process of bauxite refining) for constructing the surface cover of closed bauxite residue storage areas was investigated. Specifically, its properties as a medium for plant growth are of interest to ensure residue sand can support a sustainable ecosystem following site closure. The geochemical evolution of the residue s...

Efficient Parameters Selection for CNTFET Modelling Using Artificial Neural Networks

In this article different types of artificial neural networks (ANN) were used for CNTFET (carbon nanotube transistors) simulation. CNTFET is one of the most likely alternatives to silicon transistors due to its excellent electronic properties. In determining the accurate output drain current of CNTFET, time lapsed and accuracy of different simulation methods were compared. The training data for...

Algorithmic Decision Theory within Discrete Complex Networks

Algorithmic decision theory becomes more and more important. We will present a theoretical and practical point of view to the role of networks and dynamic flow problems in complex environments. To support a decision support management a comfortable software implementation for solving multiobjective discrete control and dynamic flow problems on networks will be presented. As many processes from ...
